"No one in Marine Basic Class 6-67 had any idea that 1968 would become the deadliest year during the Vietnam War... 36 years later, a small group of classmates returned to Vietnam… The idea came of giving back something to the children and families that suffered so much during the war…” A group of Marines and a widow returned to Vietnam, almost 40 years since many of them first landed in Danang to dedicate an elementary school in honor of the soldiers of the Marine Basic Class 6-67 and to help generations of school children in Vietnam through education and learning.
Childhood dreams should be a normal part of any child’s life. Yet for some, the very idea of dreaming about the future is unimaginable. Such is the case with children with congenital heart disease. If untreated, 85% of children with congenital heart defects will die. With proper treatment, over 90% will lead a healthy life. This moving video documents EMW’s Operation Healthy Heart program from the children who have received surgery to the children and their families for whom the wait continues. Operation Healthy Heart seeks to provide surgeries for these children, and at the same time impact how pediatric cardiology is performed in Vietnam and ultimately throughout Southeast Asia.
