Nguyen Van Troi Primary School: Quang Nam
The Boeing Company donated $90,500 to build the Nguyen Van Troi primary school in Hamlet Chau Lam in Quang Nam province. The school serves 405 children with 12 well lit classrooms in a two-story building.
The new school replaces an old facility in the hamlet that was built in 1977. The old school had serious structural damage and water damage and had been declared unsafe for children. In addition to building the school, Boeing provided book bags and school supplies for all students.
"Environmental conditions constitute a key element of the learning experience and are essential to allow each student to reach his or her potential," said Christopher Flint, Director of International Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Boeing recognizes that these students are the future of Vietnam and we are proud to have a role in their contributions to Vietnam's progress."
Boeing has been active in Vietnam since US-Vietnam trade was restored just over 10 years ago. Since then, Boeing and Vietnam Airlines have developed a strong working relationship in which Boeing planes serve the airline's long-haul and regional routes. Vietnam Airlines is also a launch customer for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, having placed an order for four of the new, high-technology jetliners. Boeing is also working with Vietnam Airlines and American Pacific University in helping to prepare candidates in the operation, maintenance and management of airplane fleets and airline functions.
John Anner, EMW Executive Director, commented, “This partnership will mean that over 400 children will have a safe place to learn. We commend Boeing for their strong program of social initiatives and are very pleased and proud to partner with such a fine company in this effort.”
