Dear [member_name_first],

In this edition of the East Meets West e-newsletter I'd like to share exciting news about some new EMW programs, partnerships and recent events in Vietnam.

Highlights include:

New HandIn early April, 60 people received new fully functioning prosthetic hands. EMW coordinated a delegation of visitors from the Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation, Stack Plastics, and two Rotary Clubs on a trip to Vietnam to install modern prosthetic hands for people with disabilities and to train medical and health staff on how to install the hands. EMW became involved with the trip through our new Support Network for People with Disabilities (SN-PWD) established in Quang Ngai provinced through a grant from the Ford Foundation. Read more about the SN-PWD and how EMW is helping people with disabilities in Vietnam.

Petra and JohnThe Happy Hearts Fund, founded by Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova, has made a commitment to support EMW's Operation Healthy Heart program. Petra (shown at right with John Anner in Ho Chi Minh City) recently visited Vietnam to discuss how Happy Hearts, the charity she founded after her near-death experience in the tsunami tragedy, could get involved with EMW's work in Vietnam. “We are so happy to be a partner with East Meets West,” said Petra. “It is an amazing organization with fantastic programs.” Read more about Petra's commitment.

AIG party EMW hosted two "Live the Dream" parties to celebrate American International Group's grant to Operation Healthy Heart. AIG Vietnam General Director Terence Anderson and his family were at the celebration party in Ho Chi Minh City to meet many of the children with heart defects who will now receive life-saving heart surgery thanks to AIG's support over the next three years. Meet some of the children waiting for heart surgery through OHH.

Chuck FeenyThe entire board of directors of Atlantic Philanthropies (AP) recently visited Vietnam to tour some of the large construction projects they have funded over the past seven years. EMW staff and board members enjoyed a dinner with the AP Board, including the founder Chuck Feeny (shown at right with EMW staff). See a list of recent EMW Large Construction projects funded by AP.

You can read all about these projects and more on our website. Thank you once again for your interest in and support of our work in Vietnam.

Best regards,
