Laos and Cambodia
East Meets West has staff working on the Breath of Life program in three countries outside of Vietnam. Meet the staff below who work in these offices.
Laos
Dan Fitzpatrick
Program Manager
Dan joined EMW in March 2009 after working as a consultant for four months setting up the Breath of Life program in Laos. Before joining EMW, Dan was a consultant to various organizations in Vietnam, both in the private and nonprofit sectors, mainly in the areas of senior management training and capacity building, socio-economic research and organizational strategy. He was also a visiting professor to a program providing higher education to Burmese refugees.
Dan originally came to Vietnam in 2004 at the invitation of the University of Social Science and Humanities, VNU (Hanoi) and stayed on to become Senior Advisor to the Centre of Policy Studies and Analysis (CEPSTA) at the same institution. Prior to that, Dan worked for several years at the University of Hertfordshire, UK where he published a number of academic papers on topics to do with the nature of economic phenomena (money, corporations, economic transactions etc). Earlier he had served as an Investment Analyst and Company Director at the Lister Group in Dublin, Ireland.
Dan has been awarded degrees by Trinity College Dublin, University of Kent (UK), University of Warwick (UK) and the London School of Economics where he completed his Ph.D. In his spare time, Dan takes long distance trips on off-road motorbikes in North Vietnam and Laos. Dan is a keen reader and traveller and a believer in life-long education. Although convinced of the power of the digital age, Dan believes in the superiority of the art of conversation over electronic communication and that good quality fiction has been providing us with the equivalent of additional lives long before the introduction of “virtual worlds.”
